Way Of Care

At Happy Home, every child is nurtured through a rich and holistic programme—from swimming galas and dance to physiotherapy, music, choir, and instrumental training. Renowned musicians, including expert guitarists, mentor our students, while artists from diverse disciplines collaborate with them to create high-quality, meaningful work. Together, these experiences go beyond learning—they build confidence, expression, and a deep sense of possibility.

Learning Through Alternate Senses

Personal bearing and conduct are specially emphasized. It is not enough to work hard to achieve academic and curricular goals. Every child has to learn to stand erect, speak clearly, confidently and politely, and leave a mark. At HHSB, we rely on the child’s innate ability to learn and his enthusiasm to become independent at an early age. We ensure that he acquires the skills, support and empowerment to negotiate his own unique steps towards independence.

Self expression is essential to offset feelings of inadequacy. This is encouraged by way of special projects in ceramics and pottery, carpentry and woodwork, mosaic, handloom, weav-ing, mime, drama, yoga, judo and a variety of indoor and outdoor sports, cricket being the all time favourite.

Fingers That See

Mobility is a cornerstone of independence. For the visually impaired, it goes beyond using a white cane -it involves developing awareness, confidence, and the ability to navigate unfamiliar spaces without fear. Through orientation and familiarization, children learn to move safely and comfortably in their environment, laying the foundation for a more confident and independent journey.

Academic and curricular goals are important, as are personal discipline and good behaviour. At Happy Home, we nurture each child’s innate abilities and natural enthusiasm to build confidence and independence from an early age, equipping them with the skills for self-reliance. Family counselling is an integral part of our approach, guiding parents in supporting their child’s development, easing transitions, and ensuring that learning and growth continue seamlessly between school and home.

Learning to Live

The Happy Home choir, featuring students aged 7 to 20, is known for its talent and multilingual performances. They have sung for distinguished figures like A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Muhammad Yunus.

A major highlight was their invitation to perform in Kigali, Rwanda, for the genocide memorial. The choir regularly performs across the city—especially during Christmas—and at iconic venues like the Taj Mahal Palace, Four Seasons, and the Afghan Church, as well as international stages including the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2024, they shared a special moment performing with legendary musician Herbie Hancock, reflecting their growing global recognition.

PITCH PERFECT

Physical fitness and flexibility are boosted in daily yoga, swimming and regular gymnastic and judo sessions in the School's airy gymnasium. Not surprisingly, cricket is the boys' favourite sport and they learn to bat and bowl with tremendous skill - and sometimes with style - using a ball filled with ball-bearings or bells to provide audible cues.

Children are encouraged to make the most of their limited or residual vision. They learn to use technical aids such as magnifying glasses, tilting table tops and large print text. Some of the children have shadow vision which means they can see blurred shapes but cannot recognise a face. If a child has sufficient vision to count fingers, he should be able to learn to read and write large print and also to use a computer, which can lead to a career in IT. With the help of spectacles - and considerable expertise as well as artistry - some children learn to use diamond cutters to slice shards of coloured glass to create vivid and luminous mosaics.
